Food Programs

All food provided at school needs to be prepared (or supervised) by an adult with FoodSafe certification, in a FoodSafe space, and in accordance with the Canadian Food Guide, BC Healthy Schools, as well as local policies.  Both Breakfast and Lunch Club are both staffed by the school and currently required to ensure that we have no interruptions to the food programs for our students.

At Westview, we offer the following options for our students:

Breakfast Club - 8:40am-9:00am

Healthy breakfast grab-and-go options, including yogurt, smoothies, fruit and muffins.

Lunch Club - 12:45pm-1:00pm

Healthy lunch and snack options including sandwiches, cheese, fruit and more.

Healthy Snacks

Snacks are made available for students through “snack baskets” in each classroom and include both perishable and non-perishable options (fruit, granola bars, and other options).

Q&As
Q: My child used to be able to eat in the Multi-purpose Room and play games while eating breakfast.  Why has this changed?

A: The multi-purpose room is the space that is licensed for Before School Care.  Licensing only allows that students registered for the Before School Care program to be in the space and they have strict limits on adult-child ratios.

Q: Are snacks still available for students at any time from the office?

A: Yes, snacks are available to students, but not in the office.  They are now located in “snack baskets” in classrooms, which cuts down on students needing to leave their learning for a snack.

Q: I used to bake muffins for the school. Can we still do that?

A: It is required that any food for students be prepared by or under the direction of a FoodSafe Certified adult or in a FoodSafe Certified space.  Donations of sealed store-bought food are still welcome, and volunteers may prepare muffins in the school.

Q: Can parents still help with the breakfast program?

A: Yes, parent help is always welcomed! Parent volunteers can supplement the regular breakfast program with additional items when they are here, like cheese toast and other extra offerings.
